The Story of the Octagon

Young George Gregg's decision to build an octagonal farmhouse just south of Circleville, Ohio was certainly based on two things: his memory of the octagonal courthouse, built in 1813, which sat in the center of The Circle and destroyed in 1840, and Orson Fowler's book, A Home for All, suggesting the octagonal design was healthy and full of light.

In 1920, M. M. Crites purchased the farm which remained in the family until 2001 when the Roundtown Conservancy acquired it, had it moved one-half mile across fields to its present location at the east end of Crites Road.

By popular demand, we now offer you this photographic tour of the house.
