To
Friends of Roundtown Conservancy,
Stuart
Sharpnack’s patience and diplomacy have brought us through the past
years, during which our concentration has been mainly on the Octagon
House -- but not entirely.
We
worked hard to prevent the CVS building on East Main Street being simply
a box with cars around it. The present building is one of the
best-looking CVS pharmacies in Ohio.
We
turned our attention to the Bi-Centennial and successfully bid for a
marker honoring Caleb Atwater, historian and educator. His
informative marker stands in the Verizon-Atwater Plaza, N. Court and
Pinckney Streets, in front of the outline of a house in which he lived
and wrote.
We have
had tours for school children and adults, featuring county markers, city
markers and the Historic District, which is delineated by markers
generated by the Conservancy. Several new projects are in process.
Many of
you have attended our various events and are supporting our efforts to
save and restore The Octagon for community use.
I
believe we are on the verge of new energy toward architectural
restoration and important green space preservation.
The
Conservancy welcomes new members, new interest,
new
ideas. Join us!
