The Roundtown Conservancy pooled the talents of several members to create a 2008 calendar featuring past and present historical buildings. The pages of the calendar are presented here.

Response was high and the three printings of the calendar sold out quickly. The Conservancy is planning a 2009 and 2010 calendar.

Circleville, Ohio 2008

The Original Courthouse which stood in the center of the Circle - 1814 -
c. 1840

Steve Spicer's interpretation of the original court house shows a discerning eye and attention to historic detail.

"Children Playing on the Circle"
Susan Smith used G. F. Wittich's and Steve's court house drawing as a background for her charming silhouettes.

"Out Back"
Bauder Carriage House, back alley off Pinckney Street
Late 19th Century
Steve's lino block print allows us to remember an era long past. This building was razed for a parking lot.

Zieger-Williamson House
SW Corner, Scioto & High
1810-1904
The house was built by Jacob Zieger, who sold some of his land to found the city of Circleville. Court was held in this house, as were the Masonic meetings until 1825.

Grand Opera House
NW corner, Court & Pinckney
1888-1962

Plays and operas (i.e. Gilbert & Sullivan), using well-known actors/singers, were held here. Wally Higgins' drawing shows it in a later time when it was a movie house.

"Flower on a Windowsill"
Southeast corner of Court & High Streets, from the rear
Steve's intimate backyard view shows a neighborhood of buildings that are mostly still standing.

Olds-Marfield House
NW corner, Pickaway & Main
c. 1840-1966

This gracious home was built by Joseph Olds. An excellent example of Classical Revival, it was a showplace for half a century.

Pedrick-Atwater-Stough House
209 E. Main Street
c. 1830-1999
Wally has taken this small house, Caleb Atwater's last home, back to its early days. Caleb died here in 1867. It was torn down in 1999 to make way for a CVS.

"Community"
Circleville skyline from the north.
Steve has made here a skyline slightly compressed to show buildings significant in his life.

Keffer-Long-Bach-Higgins House c. 1834
This red house, still standing, is the home of Carol & Wally Higgins. The front is a process called "rustication," vertically grooving wide planks to resemble stone

Wall-Groce-Fickardt-Lutz-Cooper House
c. 1826
The back (original) part of this interesting house was built by Samuel Watt; the front was added in the 1850's and the steps when "the hill" was cut down for the street.

"The Door"
St. Philip's Episcopal Church
St. Philip's Episcopal church is the oldest church building still in use. Judy has added its traditional Christmas wreaths.
